WHAT IS BETACAM SP
History
- A Betacam SP (superior performance) is a type of video technology developed in the 1980s that was used in the Television industry with an improved resolution from the original betacam format
- They consist of a long tape that is placed in a plastic casing
- Because these old tapes are recorded magnetically as opposed to digitally, they can lose their data over time
Downsides
- As mentioned, tapes unfortunately degrade over time
- This happens because of exposure to light, moisture or any other irritants.
- The only real solution to these issues is to have your Betacam SP tapes transferred to digital
