- Recordible blank DVDs became popular in the early 2000's
- Recordable DVDs work by using a laser to effect a special type of dye used to store data
- DVDs were praised at the time for being able to store digital data instead of analogue signals which were of a lower quality
Downsides to DVD
- The problem with recordable DVDs is that even though they are recorded digitaly, the process is still physical
- This means that a process called disc rot can take effect
- Disc rot is the slow degradation of the physical disc, resulting in data loss. The longer you leave the DVD, the worse the rot will get
